HOW TO REACH BALLABIO AND THE LEGOFEST

Ballabio is very close to Lecco, northern Italy, in a valley called Valsassina. Ballabio is about 50 km north of Milan. The only public service that reach Ballabio is a bus line that start from the railway station of Lecco. The preferred kind of transport is the car because some of you have to carry the buildings. Ballabio is easily attainable from the exit "Valsassina" on the highway Milan-Lecco. If you are in doubt or you want additional information please feel free to e-mail Marco Chiappa.

1 - Milan

from Tangenziale Ovest

This direction is useful if you come from South France, Spain, Portugal or reach Italy from Genova seaports.

Travel the Tangenziale Ovest of Milano and enter in the highway to Venezia. Take the exit "Sesto San Giovanni-Viale Zara" (on the signs you can find the direction for Lecco-Sondrio). Travel all the highway Milano - Lecco for about 50 km and take the exit "Valsassina". Go straight on till Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest.

from the highway A4 Torino - Milano

This direction is useful if you come North France. If you come from Holland, Belgium or Luxembourg is better come from Switzerland.

Travel all the highway Torino - Milano till the end, pay the fee and go straight on in Venezia direction. Take the exit "Sesto San Giovanni-Viale Zara" (on the signs you can find the direction for Lecco-Sondrio). Travel all the highway Milano - Lecco for about 50 km and take the exit "Valsassina". Go straight on till Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest.

from Tangenziale Est

The direction is useful if you are in center or south of Italy, or you reach Italy from south seaports.

From the highway A1 (Autostrada del Sole) go straight on and travel all Tangenziale Est. 500 m before the highway tollbooth take the exit "Lecco - Sondrio - Tangenziale Nord".

Then after 2 km take the exit "Monza Villa Reale - Lecco - Sondrio". Travel all the highway Milano - Lecco for about 50 km and take the exit "Valsassina". Go straight on till Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest.

2 - Bergamo

You have to consider this direction if you come from Austria, Germany (passing from Austria and then Brennero pass), East and South-East Europe. If you come from Greece or you reach Italy from south seaports go to Milano - Tangenziale Est direction.

From every highway in the north east of Italy you should travel in direction Milan. If you follow this direction you are obliged to travel on highway A4 Venezia - Milano.

Take the Bergamo exit and go straight on the tangenziale of Bergamo in direction of Lecco till the end of the road. Then you have travel across a normal road (not a highway) for about 25/30 km. When you arrive in Lecco you have to follow the signs for Valsassina. Near to the hospital (called Ospedale Manzoni) take the tunnel to Valssasina that brings you directly to Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest.

3 - Lugano

The direction from Lugano is useful if you come from northern Europe: Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Danmark and all the Scandinavian countries, England, Polonia and so on. If you come to Italy across Austria please refer to Bergamo direction. If you come from Switzerland and Germany from Splugen Pass or Julia Pass please refer to Sondrio direction.

You have to travel in direction Lugano and Milano. After Lugano you reach Chiasso and then you enter in Italy. Take the exit Como sud and follow the sign to Lecco. You have to travel the normal road (not highway) for about 25 km in direction of Lecco. You are obliged to take the highway Milano - Lecco and then take the exit "Valsassina". Go straight on till Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest.

4 - Sondrio

The Sondrio direction is useful if you come from east Switzerland and you want to travel across Splugen Pass (2000 m high), Julia Pass (2000 m high) or other mountain direction that brings you to Valtellina and Sondrio area. Please note that this street are very difficult but very suggestive.

You have two possibilities. From every street you have to drive always in direction of Lecco, but it is possible:

a) Take the exit "Bellano" and the direction Valsassina. Travel across Valsassina for about 20 km and reach Ballabio. At he roundabout of Ballabio turn on the right in direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest. This road is very tortuous but very suggestive and shorter than the option "b".
b) Take the exit "Lecco centro" and follow the sign for Valssasina and then to Ballabio. At the exit of the tunnel you find a roundabout. Go straight on following the direction "Piani Resinelli", after 300 m on the right you can find the school and the Legofest. The road is longer but simpler than option "a" but you have to travel across the town of Lecco.

Ballabio is not reach by railway. You have to reach the railway station of Lecco so you are ALWAYS obliged to pass by Milano. When you arrive at the Lecco railway station you have to take the bus to Ballabio (line Lecco - Premana).
